Hi everyone — thanks for subscribing to my blog! I hope it’s been worth your while and you’ve found at least *something* that’s occasionally worth reading here. I’ve kept this blog going for about a year and a half now. It hasn’t been nearly as regular or steady in terms of a posting schedule as I’d like. I’ve had long gaps where I just got too busy or felt like I didn’t have anything to say. And more than anything, I’ve struggled with a *theme* for this blog — what do I want this project to be about? How do I develop a voice that’s consistent in tone or subject matter or general outlook on life and knit that all together? That’s turned out to be really hard.
Welp. I’m here today to say I don’t have answers to any of those questions. I still have no idea what I’m doing with this website. Nevertheless, I’m going to charge ahead and start something entirely different and see where this new project goes.
Below you’ll find a link to my new fiction sub-blog, The Naked City. I posted my first story there earlier tonight. It’s a complete short story, though I wrote it very quickly, just in the last couple days. I’m glad I was able to write it, but it’s definitely a very raw and very unpolished first attempt. It’s a proof of concept, if you will. It’s a story. It exists, and I wrote it. Parts of it I like; other parts I just wanted to try and get down. I’m not sure I have much more to say about it than that.
Going forward, I’d like to try my hand at writing more short stories. The old maxim is to “write what you know,” so I’m trying to focus my efforts on urban millennial-ish gay fiction.1 Again, no illusions about what I’m attempting here — I’m not exactly plowing new ground. But this blog is a safe space for me, and it allows me to try out the (grueling, terrifying, and extremely vulnerable) art form of short story writing, and well.. yeah. I want to see where it goes.
That’s it! Click the link above if you wanna read my first story. Eventually I’m going to set up The Naked City as its own stand-alone subscription, so you can sign up for it apart from the regular blog posts. But I haven’t quite figured out how to make that piece work yet, so for now just click the link above or navigate from my blog’s main home page.
Hope you like it. That’s all for now.
N.
It’s mostly millennial. It’s definitely very gay. And city-focused. No characters driving around in cars. Fuck cars.
